Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor adventure that uses GPS-enabled devices (like your smartphone!). Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.
They are everywhere! There are millions of geocaches hidden in over 190 countries. You’ve probably walked past dozens of them without even knowing it. They can be in:
Local Parks: Tucked under a park bench or behind a tree.
Urban Spots: Hidden in plain sight on a city sidewalk.
The Wilderness: Along your favorite hiking trails in the Texas backroads.
To keep the game fun for everyone, geocachers follow a simple code:
If you take something, leave something: Always trade for something of equal or greater value.
Write it down: Sign the logbook so the owner knows you visited.
Leave no trace: Respect nature and keep the hiding spot looking exactly as you found it.
The classic! A container with a logbook at the coordinates.
You have to solve a riddle or puzzle to find the real location.
A scavenger hunt that leads you through two or more locations!
A meet up of people who all share the love for geocaching!
